Good morning Mississauga,

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, so this issue leans into the local plans that make it easier to get out. There are family-friendly stops, a dinner and dance, a car-nival, and a few ways to keep the fun going after the candy is gone.

You’ll also find a Latin Festival, a local art event, and some good food ideas for the week, from cheung fun to roti to a classic steakhouse meal. Plus, Mississauga has election results, Diwali fireworks rules, and a new cricket team to know.

Let's get into it!

Kish Roti

📍 5019 Spectrum Way Unit A2

Kish Roti is a Caribbean spot near Spectrum Way with a menu built around roti, rice meals, doubles and Trinidadian style sides. The easy order is a boneless chicken, goat or jerk chicken roti, with curry fish, duck and shrimp also on the main menu.

Mama Fatma

📍 6970 Financial Dr

Mama Fatma serves halal Turkish and Mediterranean dishes in Meadowvale. Start with a dip platter such as baba ghanoush, ezme and pembe sultan, then look at Adana kebab, Iskender, lamb chops, lahmacun, pide and baklava.

Mississauga Releases Unofficial Election Results

Mississauga has released the unofficial results from the October 26 municipal election. Alvin Tedjo was elected mayor with 74,479 votes, and the city says 191,166 voters cast ballots, for a turnout of 33.9 per cent.

The results also list the unofficially elected ward councillors and school board trustees. The City Clerk must certify the results before they become official.

Why it matters: The unofficial results show who is expected to hold mayor, council, and school board seats once the City Clerk certifies the count.

Mississauga Sets Diwali Fireworks Rules

Mississauga residents can use family fireworks on private property for Diwali on Sunday, November 8, from 6 to 10 p.m. Fireworks are not allowed on roads, sidewalks, parking lots or other public property.

The city says extra bylaw officers will be on duty that night. Roman candles are banned, and fireworks complaints should go to 311 unless there is an immediate danger.

Why it matters: Families get a clear window to celebrate, while neighbours have a simple way to know what is allowed before Diwali night.

Mississauga Skyhawks In Global T20 Canada

Mississauga’s name is on the Global T20 Canada cricket schedule this week through the Mississauga Skyhawks. The tournament runs into early November, with the Skyhawks scheduled for league matches before the semifinals and final.

The games are being played at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, so this is more of a follow-along sports story than a local outing.

Why it matters: Cricket has a big local audience, and the Skyhawks give Mississauga fans a team name to follow during a short tournament window.
