Good morning Mississauga,

This week has a few reasons to get outside before the fall chill settles in. The salmon run is peaking along the Credit River, and the Salmon Run Community Ride gives you a guided way to see more of it.

There’s also a busy community stretch ahead, with the CIBC Run For The Cure in Mississauga, a Guinness world record attempt, and Homegrown Mississauga bringing apples, art and seed saving into one local stop.

Let's get into it!

This Week's Local Feature

ExcellCare

A little help can give you a lot more freedom.

Being able to do everything yourself doesn’t mean you have to spend your time doing all of it.

Groceries. Making meals. Driving to appointments. Running errands. Keeping up with the little things around the house.

You may be perfectly capable of doing every one of them.

But that doesn’t mean they all deserve your time.

A few hours of support can mean more time for lunch with a friend, getting outside, seeing family, enjoying a hobby, or simply having an afternoon that is yours again.

That is where ExcellCare can help.

ExcellCare can take care of the things you would rather hand off, from meals and errands to transportation, appointments, and light housekeeping.

You stay in control. You decide what you want help with, how often you want it, and what you would rather continue doing yourself.

It might be a few hours a week or something more regular. There is no need to make a major change all at once. The support is built around your life, not the other way around.

This isn’t about giving up your independence. It’s about having more freedom to spend your time the way you want.

Start with a complimentary, no-obligation consultation.

This long-running family spot is a comfort-food stop near Hurontario and Dundas, with big plates that work for breakfast, lunch, or an easy dinner. The menu leans classic: pancakes, French toast, eggs Benedict, omelettes, house soups, Greek salad, Reuben sandwiches, Monte Cristos, schnitzel on a bun, and chicken parmigiana.

Go if you want a simple sit-down meal with plenty of choice. The Mississauga Special comes with pancakes, eggs, home fries, toast, and jam, while Orchard’s Super Platter adds pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, and toast for a fuller breakfast plate.

Papa Giuseppe's

📍 26 Lakeshore Road East

This Port Credit Italian spot does stone oven pizza, fresh pasta and shareable starters in the centre of the village. Start with polpette, Italian meatballs in tomato sauce, burrata, or calamari fritti.

For mains, keep it classic with a Margherita pizza, try one of the house pizzas like Bella Mia or the mushroom focused Del Bosco, or go for a pasta like spicy vodka rigatoni. It fits a casual date night, a family meal or a group dinner where pizza and pasta make ordering easy.

Hakka Ren

📍 4555 Hurontario Street, Unit C2

Hakka Ren does Indo Chinese comfort food with a long menu of shareable plates. Start with chicken pakoras, small crispy fritters made with spiced chicken batter, or try fried wontons and hot and sour soup. For mains, go for chili chicken, chili beef, fried rice or Hakka noodles, a stir fried noodle dish with vegetables, soy sauce and your choice of protein.

It works well for a casual group dinner because most dishes are easy to split. Chicken Manchurian is another house-style order to know: fried chicken pieces tossed in a tangy, garlicky sauce. There are also plant based chicken, beef and shrimp options with sauces like chili, Manchurian, Szechuan and house special.

What's New in Sauga

The Salmon Run Is Peaking Along The Credit River

Mississauga's annual salmon run is underway, and early October is usually the best time to watch. The City points residents to Erindale Park, Riverwood Park and Meadowvale Conservation Area as good places to see salmon moving upstream from Lake Ontario.

Why it matters: It is a free fall outing that feels very Mississauga, but the fish need space. Watch from trails, bridges and riverbanks, and stay out of the water.

Fire Prevention Week Starts Sunday

Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services is focusing this year's Fire Prevention Week on safe charging habits for phones, laptops, e-bikes, e-scooters and power tools. The City says lithium ion batteries were its fastest growing ignition source, with battery related fires up 122 per cent in 2025 compared with the year before.

Why it matters: Most homes now have several rechargeable devices. Charging on hard surfaces, avoiding overnight charging near beds and replacing damaged batteries can lower the risk.

Mississauga Library Is Making The Case For The Library Card

The City is reminding residents that a free Mississauga Library card gives access to more than books, including movies, video games, digital news, online learning, programs, museum passes, Wi-Fi hotspots, sports equipment and tools from the Library of Things. The library system says its programs and services create about $236.7 million in social and economic value each year.

Why it matters: If you are trying to cut costs, this is one of the easiest local cards to use more. There are 18 library locations across the city.
