This Week's Best Eats

Mango Mirchi

📍 99 Dundas St E

Mango Mirchi serves Mangalorean and Goan food, with lots of seafood, coconut curries and coastal Indian dishes on the menu. Look for prawn and raw mango curry, Goan and Mangalorean fish curry, pomfret rava fry, which is whole fish coated in semolina and fried, plus pork vindaloo, chorizo pulao and beef pan rolls, a Goan snack with spiced beef wrapped in a thin crepe.

It’s a good sit-down choice if you want a full meal with dishes to share. Add sannas, soft steamed rice cakes, with a curry, then finish with bebinca, a layered Goan cake, baath cake, a coconut and semolina cake, or mango rasmalai, a creamy Indian dessert with soft cheese dumplings.

Henry Jollof Restaurant

📍 1852 Dundas Street East

Henry Jollof is a Nigerian restaurant for a filling rice plate, takeout feast, or group order. Start with the party jollof, a smoky tomato rice cooked with peppers and spices, then add fried plantain, grilled chicken thigh, peppered turkey, beef suya, which is spiced grilled beef, or croaker fish served in red pepper sauce.

The menu also has ofada rice, a hearty Nigerian rice often paired with pepper sauce, coconut rice, efo riro, which is a rich spinach stew, goat meat pepper soup, yam porridge, and puff puff, a sweet fried dough snack. It’s a good stop when you want a saucy, hearty meal with lots of sides and easy options to share.

My Empanada is a small Colombian stop near Hurontario and Dundas for golden empanadas with beef, chicken or vegetarian filling. The menu also has stuffed cassava, which is a crisp yuca snack with a savoury filling, plus stuffed potatoes, mini empanada combos and snack boxes for sharing.

If you want to try more than empanadas, look for arepas, which are warm corn cakes often filled or topped with meat, cheese or beans. There’s also chorizo, pandebono, a soft Colombian cheese bread, and fruit desserts made with passion fruit, blackberry or soursop. It’s a good fit for a quick lunch, casual takeout or a tray of warm snacks to bring home.

Suspicious Inverhouse Drive Fire Sends 18 To Hospital

A fire in an apartment building near Inverhouse Drive and Lakeshore Road West sent 18 people to hospital on Monday, including first responders. Police told CityNews the hallway fire is being treated as suspected arson, and fire officials said some residents from the third floor may be out of their units for a while.

Why it matters: This is one of the week’s biggest local safety stories. If you live in an apartment, it is a good reminder to know your exit route, test alarms and keep hallways clear.

Mississauga Has Planted More Than 650,000 Trees

The City says its One Million Trees program has reached 653,729 trees planted toward its 2032 goal. Fall planting events are now underway, including TD Tree Days events that will add hundreds of native trees and shrubs in Mississauga.

Why it matters: Tree planting is not just nice scenery. More trees help with shade, stormwater, wildlife habitat and hotter summers, and residents can count their own planted trees toward the city goal.

Renters Get A Fall Maintenance Help Guide

The City has posted a new guide for Mississauga renters dealing with home maintenance problems like heating issues, leaks, pests, mould, broken appliances and damaged doors or windows. It explains when to start with a landlord or property manager, and when to contact the City if the problem is not fixed.

Why it matters: Fall is when heat, leaks and pest problems can get worse. This gives tenants a clear first step before small issues turn into health, safety or comfort problems.

Food Banks Mississauga Launches Its Thanksgiving Drive

Food Banks Mississauga is running its Thanksgiving Drive with a goal of raising $900,000 by October 16. The group says its network of 60+ food programs saw more than 513,000 visits in its latest year, the highest in its 40 year history.

Why it matters: Donations go further through bulk buying and food rescue: the food bank says every $1 donated can provide more than $4 worth of food for neighbours across Mississauga.

Thanks For Reading

The goal is simple: make it easier to know what's happening around Mississauga and prove our city is more interesting than people think.

See you Tuesday!
