This Week's Best Eats
Jerk & BBQ Haven

📍 488 Eglinton Avenue West Unit 20
This Jamaican spot is good for a filling takeout dinner when you want jerk chicken, oxtail, curry goat, curry chicken, BBQ chicken or stew chicken with rice and peas, coleslaw or steamed vegetables. The combo plates are the easy move if you want two mains, with options like jerk chicken and oxtail, jerk chicken and curry goat, or oxtail and curry goat.
Add plantain, fried dumplings, salt fish fritters, or festival, a lightly sweet fried bread that goes well with jerk and gravy. Bigger family orders can add patties, ackee and salt fish, a classic Jamaican dish made with salted cod and a soft fruit that eats almost like scrambled egg, escovitch snapper, which is fried fish topped with tangy pickled vegetables, brown stew snapper, rum cake, or coconut drops, a chewy coconut and ginger sweet.
Orda Restaurant
📍 1850 Dundas St E
Orda is a family run Uyghur restaurant with a menu built around charcoal kebabs, hand pulled noodles and big shared plates. Start with the lamb kebabs, then add stir fried laghman, a noodle dish with meat and vegetables, or zeera laghman with cumin lamb.
For a fuller meal, look at the lamb shank polo, which comes with rice, carrots, raisins and egg, or the chicken stew with vegetables and noodles. It’s a good table to bring people who like hearty food and want something more filling than a quick bite.
What's New in Sauga
New Lawn Parking Rules Are Now In Effect
Mississauga’s new lawn parking by-law took effect on September 29. It bans vehicles from parking, standing, or stopping on residential lawns, gardens, and other soft landscaped areas that are not meant for parking.
The City says it will start with education before moving into full enforcement. Fines are set at $150 for standard vehicles and $375 for heavy or recreational vehicles.
Why it matters: The City received more than 1,500 lawn parking complaints between January 2023 and August 2026. This changes how those complaints are handled and could affect anyone with crowded driveway space.
Advance Voting Opens Across Mississauga
Eligible voters can vote early at any advance voting location from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., a good option if Election Day is hard to make work.
There are sites across all 11 wards, including community centres, libraries, malls and grocery stores, plus the election site has a map for checking locations and wait times.
MiWay Seniors Have Taken 2.3M Free Trips
MiWay says seniors 65 and older have taken more than 2.3 million free trips using a senior PRESTO fare type since free senior rides launched on July 1, 2025.
The City also says senior ridership grew by more than 55 per cent between 2024 and 2025.
Why it matters: This is a big signal that free transit is changing how older residents get to appointments, shopping, programs, and family visits across the city.
IDEA Step-Up Applications Are Open
IDEA Mississauga is taking applications for its Step-Up Program, a six month growth program for companies that are ready to scale. It is aimed at sectors like life sciences, advanced manufacturing, technology, artificial intelligence, clean technology, and defence technology.
Applications close November 30, with information sessions planned for October 13 and November 16.
Why it matters: For local founders, this could mean mentorship, investor access, expert help, up to $20,000 in funding opportunities, and more than $200,000 in business resources and perks.
Circular Economy Month Is Underway
Mississauga is marking Circular Economy Month with a push to make, repair, donate, recycle, and reuse instead of tossing items out.
The City is pointing residents toward local programs and events that can help keep furniture, clothes, electronics, and other household items out of the garbage.
Why it matters: This is a good fall nudge if you are cleaning out closets, fixing small household items, or trying to save money before the holiday season.
Fall Walking Safety Is Getting A City Push
October is Pedestrian Safety Month and International Walk to School Month, and the City is reminding drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to slow down and stay alert as daylight gets shorter.
The timing matters for darker school runs, evening commutes, dog walks, and busy crossings where people can be harder to see.
Why it matters: It is a timely heads-up for families, students, and commuters, especially near schools, transit stops, and major intersections.
